A Cassville man is dead following a 2-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 81 and Settlement Road in the Township of Cassville.
The Grant County Sheriff’s office says 33 year old Erin Ruberg, of Cassville, was traveling south on Settlement Road and came to a “rolling” stop and then pulled away from the stop sign into the path of a vehicle driven by 52 year old Gerald Dukett of Cassville, who was traveling eastbound on Highway 81. Dukett struck Ruberg’s vehicle on the passenger side sending both vehicles spinning violently into the ditch on the southeast corner of the intersection. Dukett’s vehicle also rolled onto its passenger side and Dukett was ejected from his vehicle. Dukett was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ruberg sustained minor injuries in the crash. A field sobriety tests determined Ruberg was impaired by an intoxicant and was arrested for Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle. Ruberg was transported to the Grant County Jail where she is being held without bond until she can appear in front of a judge.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Cassville Fire Department, EMS, and Police, the Grant County Highway Department, Grant County Coroner’s Office, and Wisconsin State Patrol’s Technical Reconstruction Unit. Highway 81 was closed for around five hours while emergency services and investigators worked the scene.
