The Prairie du Chien Wrestlers finished second at the WIAA Division 2 State Team Tournament Saturday in Madison. The Blackhawks took their semi-final match over Baldwin-Woodville 45- 21 (Bout Details) The Hawks fell to Top Seed Luxemburg-Casco in the finals 37-20 (Bout Details).
The Fennimore Wrestlers are the Division 3 State Team Champions, as they cruised to victory in their semi-final match over Stratford 55- 3 – (Bout Details). The Golden Eagles topped Shiocton 43-18 to claim the D3 title (Bout Details).
The Prairie du Chien Girls came up one game short of the Division 3 State Tournament, losing their Sectional final Saturday afternoon to Waupun 50- 40. The girls finish the season 22-5.
Other sectional finals saw Cuba City fall to Aquinas 67-63; and Blair Taylor top Belmont 62-57.
In Division 5 Boys Regional finals, Wauzeka-Steuben beat Seneca 64-54. The Hornets will play Potosi in Prairie du Chien Thursday night in the sectional semi-finals. Potosi got past Southwestern 68-64 to win their Regional Saturday night.
In Division 4, Luther ended Cuba City’s season 87-64; Mineral Point handled Bangor 65-51 to set up their Sectional semi-final match with Luther. And Marshall ended Darlington’s season 55-49 in Double Overtime.
In Division 3, Turner knocked off Platteville 69-63.
The Iowa Boys State Basketball Tournament starts Monday with 1A Quarterfinals. 2A Quarterfinals start Monday night with #5 seed MFL MarMac going up against #4 seed Pella Christian at 7:15. 3A games start Tuesday, and 4A games start Wednesday.
At the State Gymnastics competition, PDC/Fennimore’s Madilyn Fisher tied for 4th place on Vault with a score of 9.367; Madilyn finished 10th on the Balance Beam; 9th in Floor; and 7th in All-Around. Alyssa Schoepp had a severe ankle sprain during warm-ups, and competed on the beam with no falls.
