One Vehicle Crash
On 01/27/2023, at approximately 8:42 a.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a one vehicle rollover on Highway 81 near Airport
Road in the Township of Smelser. After a brief investigation it was determined that Lauren Jones, 20, of Fennimore, was traveling eastbound
in her 2009 Chevrolet Silverado when she lost control of the vehicle due to slick road conditions. Jones brushed the guardrail on the south
side of the road before over correcting, crossing into oncoming traffic, and entering the ditch on the north side of the roadway. Jones had
minor injuries from the crash and was transported to Southwest Health Center by Southwest Health EMS. Assisting on scene were Platteville
Fire, Southwest Health EMS, and Arrow Towing of Lancaster.
Semi Jackknifed
On 01/27/2023, at approximately 1:20 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a Semi in the ditch on Highway 80 just north of
Walnut Dell Road in Platteville Township. After an investigation it was determined that Zaric Coats, of East Gadsen, Alabama, was traveling
north on Highway 80 in a 2021 Freightliner when he lost control of the truck due to the slick road conditions and high winds. The vehicle ended
up jackknifing in the ditch on the east side of the roadway. Assisting at the scene were Platteville Fire and Guys Towing.
Jackknifed Tractor Causes Delays on Highway 80
On January 27th, 2022, at approximately 3:28 pm, an accident occurred on Highway 80 near Center Road involving John Mebust (72) of
Rockford, Illinois. Mr. Mebust was operating a 2020 Hindi Tractor, pulling an enclosed semi-trailer when he lost control on the slick roadway.
As a result, the tractor jackknifed into the side of the trailer and slid down an embankment, blocking all lanes of Highway 80.
Thankfully, Mr. Mebust suffered only minor injuries in the crash. The Cuba City and Platteville Fire Departments assisted on the scene, along
with Guys Towing, who removed the jackknifed tractor.
HIT AND RUN TO OCCUPIED VEHICLE
On January 27th at approximately 3:38pm, the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 35 near Breuer Road in
Bloomington Township. It was reported one of the vehicles involved had left the scene.
After investigation, it was found that Aidan Gage, age 17 of Bloomington, was operating a 2009 Ford Focus southbound on Highway 35. Gage
was traveling behind an SUV. The SUV in front of Gage began to lose control and fishtail on the ice-covered highway. The SUV crossed the
centerline and went into the northbound lane. Gage stated he could not stop due to being in a line of traffic and also the ice covered road.
Gage continued southbound on the highway, at which time the SUV swerved back into the southbound lane. The front of the SUV struck the
driver’s door of Gage’s Ford Focus. This caused the Focus to enter the ditch and come to a rest on the south side of the road. Gage and his
two passengers were wearing seatbelts and were uninjured in the crash. The Grant County Highway Department assisted at the scene.
The offending SUV stopped at the scene briefly, but then left southbound on Highway 35 before law enforcement arrived. The offending SUV
was described as a green, early 2000’s model, possibly a Toyota. It was reported the SUV had a female driver at the time of the crash, and it
will likely have front-end damage. Anyone with information about this offending vehicle should contact the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
Jackknifed Semi
On 01/27/2023, at approximately 3:55 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Semi truck and trailer that had jackknifed
and was in the ditch on County Road K in North Lancaster Township. After an investigation it was determined that Ehren Seymour, 43, of
Neshkoro, was traveling north bound in a 2017 Mac when he lost control of the vehicle due to the slick road conditions. The vehicle he was
driving slid into the ditch on the east side of the roadway and was jackknifed. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Milos Towing of
Prairie Du Chien.
SLIDE OFF LEADS TO 3rd OFFENSE OWI ARREST
On 01/28/2023, at approximately 01:34 AM Grant County Deputy’s responded to a report of a vehicle in the median on Highway 151 near the
scales in the Township of Jamestown. It was reported that the vehicle occupant had left the scene on foot and was last seen walking north
bound on Highway 151.
Deputy’s arrived on scene and located a blue, 2009 Hyundai Elantra registered to Joshua Joseph Boffeli age 46 of Dubuque Iowa. The Elantra
was unoccupied and in the median of Highway 151 near mile marker 2. At 01:50 AM Boffeli was located by Deputy’s walking in the area of
Maryville Heights and Northview Drive and was taken in custody without incident for Operating While Intoxicated (3rd Offense). Boffeli was
then transported to Southwest Health for a legal blood draw. Assisting on scene was Donnies Tire and Auto of Dickeyville and Southwest
Health. This case remains under investigation at this time.
Vehicle vs concrete barrier
On 01/28/2023, at approximately 12:54 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle that struck a concrete barrier near
mile marker 12, on Highway 151, in Platteville Township. After a brief investigation it was determined that Chaitanya Manne, 29, of Overland
Park, KS, was driving his 2019 BMW south on Highway 151 when he lost control of the vehicle due to slick road conditions. Manne attempted
to stop the vehicle from striking the concrete barrier on the right shoulder of the roadway but was unable to. The vehicle struck the barrier
causing damage to the front end of the BMW. Assisting at the scene was McDivitt’s Repair and Towing of Parkersburg, IA.
