On August 27, 2022 at approximately 6:55 am the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a local tow company about a vehicle in a creek near the intersection of Airport Rd and Hudson Hollow Rd located in the Township of Ellenboro. A Deputy was dispatched to investigate and located an unoccupied 2005 Toyota Prius approximately 40 yards off of the roadway nose down in the McPherson Branch Creek. The vehicle is owned by Alyssa Miles, age 28 from Platteville. Miles was traveling westbound on Airport Rd. According to Miles she swerved to miss a deer, while negotiating a curve. Miles crossed into the eastbound lane of travel and left the roadway on the south side of the road. Miles struck several fence posts and a street sign, before coming to rest in the ditch. Miles then made several attempts to free the vehicle from the ditch but somehow ended up traveling south through a heavily weeded area and drove right into the McPherson Branch Creek. The vehicle finally came to rest at a 45-degree angle nose down in the creek. Miles then left the scene and did not report the crash. The vehicle sustained moderate front end damages and was removed from the scene by Arrow towing of Lancaster. Miles was cited for Fail to Notify Police of a Crash, and Hit and Run Property Adjacent to a Highway. Miles was issued written warnings for Keeping Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle, and Operating Left of Center.
