On October 13th, 2024 at approximately 11:39 AM the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a car vs UTV crash on Grandview Rd near Falcon Ave. Upon arrival, it was determined a 2023 Can-Am Defender operated by Randy McMillin (63) of rural Elkader was traveling westbound on Grandview Road and was attempting to turn into the private drive of 20516 when he was struck from behind by a 2009 Ford Focus operated by Susan Steve (63) of Elkport. The collision caused the UTV to overturn and McMillin and his passenger were both ejected. McMillin was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger Mary Ann McMillin (61) was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in critical condition. Steve was uninjured in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office. Assisting the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office on scene was Mercy One Elkader Ambulance, Elkader Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, Edgewood Auto and Tire, Grau Funeral Homes, and the Clayton County Medical Examiner.
