On July 18, 2024 at 4:57 PM the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a two vehicle crash on Cty P at Hwy 18, near River Ridge Schools.
The investigating deputy learned that Samantha Metsker, 34, of rural Bloomington, was driving her 2017 Nissan Armada going east on Cty P, approaching Hwy 18. Her two minor children were with her in the vehicle. At the same time, Abrihana Settles, 16, of Indiana, was driving a 2012 Volkwagen Beetle, coming up the hill, eastbound on Hwy 18, making a right turn to go west on Cty P. She had a 17 year old passenger with her in the vehicle. Settles made the turn and reported that she had difficulty with her steering as she turned onto Cty P. Settles’ vehicle ended up completely in the eastbound lane of Cty P, directly in the path of Metsker’s SUV, which was just coming up to the stop sign. The two vehicles collided, head-on.
Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the crash site. Settles reported possible injuries and was transported by EMS to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment. Her passenger was uninjured in the crash. Both were wearing their seatbelts and airbags deployed from the crash. Metsker also reported possible injuries and was transported by EMS to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment. The two minor children were uninjured in the crash. Metsker was wearing her seatbelt and her airbag deployed. The children were in proper child safety seats.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Bloomington Fire Department, West Grant EMS, Gunderson EMS of Prairie du Chien, and B&M Towing of Bloomington. Settles was cited for Left of Center.
