Passing in no passing zone leads to crash

Just before 1:30pm, on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a passing in a no passing zone incident that had occurred on State Highway 133 near Steiger Lane in the Town of Waterloo. The caller reported that they were northbound on Highway

133 when a southbound black car attempted to pass a southbound semi almost running them off of the road. The caller reported the vehicle continued into the ditch and struck a culvert causing front end damage to the vehicle before the female driver continued on, leaving the scene. A Deputy in the Village of Potosi was alerted by dispatch of the incident and that the vehicle involved continued southbound toward Potosi.

A few minutes later, the deputy located the damaged 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage still southbound on Highway 133. The deputy made contact with the driver who was identified as Patricia Rhodes, age 41 of Cassville.

Rhodes reported that she was southbound traveling at the speed limit when she came upon a semi traveling slowly around a curve. According to Rhodes she would have struck the semi if she didn’t swerve. After Rhodes had swerved, she reported she was trying to get past the semi but was met with an oncoming northbound vehicle. Rhodes then told the deputy that she swerved down into the ditch and struck a driveway. Rhodes denied any injury and reported that she was wearing her seatbelt. She was evaluated by Potosi EMS and transported to Grant Regional for further evaluation. The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene.

After investigation, Rhodes was cited for passing in a no passing zone and operating while suspended. Potosi Rescue Squad and Donnie’s Tire and Auto assisted at the scene.
