Crawford County Health Department to conduct Mosquito Surveillance
Crawford County Health Department announces an upcoming mosquito surveillance aimed at
reducing the disease-carrying mosquito population in our area.
Starting this week, our department will be working with Driftless Region Vector Control LLC to
canvass the area to identify possible mosquito breeding sites. This proactive measure is part of our
ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses such as West Niles virus and La
Crosse viral encephalitis.
Because of health problems presented by the species of mosquitoes that use tires and other
containers as habitat, you may receive a public health reminder if Driftless Region Vector Control
LLC identifies potential human health hazards.
We encourage residents to assist in this effort by surveying their own areas and empty, remove,
cover, or flip any receptacle that could hold water such as potted plants, wading pools, buckets,
etc., properly discard unwanted tires & keep wanted tires inside or under cover.
