It is with a heavy heart and tremendous sadness that Grant County Sheriff Craig Reukauf announces the passing of Grant County Correctional Officer (Jailer) Dylan Bellamy. Dylan passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, after being struck by a motor vehicle while walking along the highway near Mattoon, IL. Dylan joined the Grant County Sheriff’s Office in December of 2023. Dylan was also a member of the Army National Guard, and he was in Illinois for his training weekend with his unit which is based out of Mattoon, IL. The accident is still under investigation.
Dylan was a bright young man with a great future at the Sheriff’s Office. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. To assist Sheriff’s Office staff, we have activated our Peer Support Team and a grief counselor is being made available for additional services.
