On Friday, January 3, 2025, the Crawford County Communications Center received a call of a vehicle that had crashed into a parked car on the 700 block of S. Wacouta Avenue. While conducting the investigation, the driver displayed several signs of drug impairment.
K-9 Phoenix was utilized to conduct a free open-air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle, where she indicated to the presence of one or more controlled substances she has been trained and certified to detect. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded suspected methamphetamine and two loaded firearms with ammunition.
Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were conducted by the driver who was subsequently arrested. The driver of the vehicle, Joshua Osterhaus, 43, of Prairie du Chien, was transported to the Crawford County Jail on charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle while Under the Influence of a Restricted Controlled Substance (3rd Offense), Possession of Methamphetamine, Endangering Safety with the Use of a Dangerous Weapon, and three counts of Felony Bail Jumping.
The Prairie du Chien Police Department were assisted by members of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and Crossing Rivers Hospital.
The vehicles were removed by Bob’s Towing Service and Milo’s Towing & Repair.
