Incident in Waukon Leads to Charges of Arson, Drug Possession and Assault

On November 17th 2024, officers with the Waukon Police Department responded to reports of an individual igniting items on fire in the street located in the 600 block of Taylor Street.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Blade Grotegut, age 25, of Waukon who was subsequently taken into custody. Grotegut resisted arrest and assaulted officers during the encounter, causing bodily injury to one officer.

During the incident, officers observed narcotics inside the individual’s residence. This observation led to the issuance and execution of a search warrant. The search of the residence resulted in the seizure of prescription drugs, various narcotics, and drug paraphernalia.

Grotegut has been charged with the following:

• Arson 3rd Degree
• Interference with Official Acts
• Assaults on persons engaged in certain occupations
• Assaults on persons engaged in certain occupations causing bodily injury
• Possession of Controlled Substances
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Person in Possession of a Prescription Drug Without a Valid Prescription

The Waukon Police Department was assisted by the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office, Lansing Police Department, and the Lansing Police Department K9 Unit.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
