Domestic Disturbance Call Leads to an Independence Man Arrested on Multiple Charges

On September 14, 2024, at approximately 1:22 pm, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of a domestic disturbance at the Bolger Drive Apartments in Fayette. After further investigation, it was found that Gary Joseph McNamara, age 27 of Independence, had forcefully climbed through a window and committed an assault. McNamara also destroyed property before fleeing the scene. The Sheriff’s Office was able to locate McNamara at another residence, outside of Oelwein. McNamara was arrested and charged with: Burglary 2nd Degree (C Felony), Domestic Abuse Assault while Displaying a Weapon (Aggravated Misdemeanor), Harassment 2nd Degree (Serious Misdemeanor), Criminal Mischief 5th Degree (Simple Misdemeanor), Driving While License Suspended (Simple Misdemeanor), and Failure to provide Financial Liability (Simple Misdemeanor). The Sheriff’s Office also conducted a search warrant on McNamara’s vehicle and retrieved the weapon. McNamara was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he awaits an initial appearance from a Magistrate Judge.
