On August 17, 2024 at 8:50 AM, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a motorcycle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 18 and State Highway 35.
Tanner Weichers, age 23 of Ackley, Iowa, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 18 on a 1998 Harley Davidson motorcycle with three other motorcycles. The front two motorcycles went to make a right turn onto State Highway 35, Tanner was unaware of the turn, applied the brakes to slow to make the turn, lost control, laid the motorcycle down on the right side. Tanner and the motorcycle continued east on U.S. Highway 18 and the motorcycle struck the U.S. Highway 18/State Road 35 road sign before coming to a rest.
Weichers was wearing a helmet and sustained minor injuries.
