Semi Roll Over at Roundabout in Lancaster

On July 20, 2024 at 1:29 PM, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a semi rollover crash at the roundabout on U.S. Highway 61 and State Highway 81.

Kyle Snyder, 61, of Lost Nation, Iowa, was traveling south on U.S. Highway 61, in a 2001 Peterbilt semi with a livestock trailer attached. The trailer had approximately 63 head of cattle in it. Snyder was approaching the roundabout and was negotiating a slight curve in the roadway, when he failed to yield right away, traveling over the center divider, striking a roadway sign, the tractor trailer over turned onto the driver side, sliding south across the roundabout, and striking another roadway sign before coming to a rest and blocking the roundabout. A total of three cattle died as a result of the crash.

Snyder was cited for Failure to Keep Vehicle Under Control and had minor injuries from the crash.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Lancaster EMS, Lancaster Fire Department, the Grant County Highway Department, and Guy’s Truck and Tractor Service, Inc.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office would like to give a special thank you to the local farmers and residents that came to the scene and assisted with removing the cattle from the trailer.

As of July of 2024 the Grant County Sheriff’s Office has responded to a total of five crashes at the roundabout south of Lancaster. The Wisconsin DOT has been looking into the issue at the roundabout.
