High River Stage Causing Additional Cancellations

With the recent rains, the latest projections from the National Weather Service have the river reaching a level at or near 21.6 by Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

ST. FERIOLE ISLAND Closed to all general public motor vehicles. Passes will be available for business owners to allow for them to check on their business and/or city parks. The Island will remain closed until further notice.

SANDBAG OPERATIONS – We currently have bags that have been filled and delivered to the location at the corner of East Washington St. and North Ohio St. The Wisconsin Department of Corrections will continue to fill additional bags starting today. The city will assist the elderly and handicapped with placing sandbags if needed; please call the EOC at 608-326-0266.

FLOOD GATE – The flood gate on Wells Street in Prairie du Chien has been closed due to rising projections.

RIVER TRAFFIC – It is highly recommended that travel is restricted on the Mississippi and Wisconsin to avoid for creating wakes for property owners. All of the slow no wake buoys that we could find were brought to shore. If you are out on the river when the water recedes and you locate a buoy, please contact City Hall at 608-326-6406. The slow no wake is still in effect.

EVENTS – The Farmers Market and Music in the Park is not happening this week because of the 4th of July. The Prairie du Chien Fire Department family fun day celebration has been cancelled for this year. The War of 1812 has also been cancelled. Additional cancellations will be announced when we receive them. Charlie Everts Memorial Youth Fishing Derby has been cancelled as well.
