On Tuesday, June 25th, 2024, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop on STH 35 near Rush Creek Rd. in the Township of Freeman. K9 Diego was deployed and alerted to the presence of one or more controlled substances. A search was conducted, and cocaine was discovered on the driver’s person. The driver was identified as Matthew Burkart (48) of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Burkart was arrested and transported to the Crawford County Jail on charges of possession of cocaine and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a restricted controlled substance with a minor in the vehicle.
