Two Separate Crashes in Grant County

On June 20th at approximately 3:31pm, the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 18 near Hicklin Hollow Road in Patch Grove Township. After investigation, it was found that Donzell Grant III, age 49 of Lansing, IA, was westbound on Highway 18 driving his 2005 Chevy Silverado.

Grant stated a deer entered the roadway and he braked and swerved to avoid hitting it. Grant then lost control of the vehicle and began to slide sideways. The vehicle left the roadway on the south side and struck a barbed wire fence. The vehicle then continued down into a field where it struck the bank of a creek and came to a rest partially in the creek bed.

Grant was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. The truck received moderate damage and was towed. Grant was cited for Operating a Motor Vehicle without Proof of Insurance and issued a written warning for Non-Registration of Auto. B&M Auto and Towing out of Bloomington assisted at the scene.

On June 22, 2024 at 7:43 P.M., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a 2000 Ford F350 had rolled over on Dug Way Rd in Bloomington Township.

The driver of the vehicle, Kevin Doerring, age 62 of Lancaster, informed the sheriff deputy that due to the heavy rain, the truck slid off the road and rolled down a steep embankment.

Doerring was arrested for OWI (1st) and the vehicle was removed from the scene my Milo’s Towing. Doerring received minor injures and was wearing his seat belt. The vehicle was a total loss.
