On 5-23-24, at around 3:01 am, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a single vehicle crash on Hwy 80 near Walnut Rd, north of
Platteville.
It was found that several large horses escaped their pasture and 3 were running along Hwy 80 when Russell Books, age 21 of Platteville
collided with the 3 horses. Books was fatally injured as a result of the crash. The three horses were also fatally injured.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene was Platteville Fire, Southwest Health EMS, Precision Towing, and Lynch excavating.
The crash remains under investigation and this is the third fatal crash in Grant County in 2024
