On March 26th, 2024, the Monona Iowa Police Department was dispatched to a theft was reported at Kwik Star in Monona involving a juvenile who had shoplifted alcohol. While searching for the juvenile, a car was reported stolen that had struck a house upon leaving the property in Monona. The owners of the vehicle attempted to follow the driver but lost the vehicle.
The vehicle was eventually located coming down the B45 hill into Marquette. The vehicle was stopped on HWY 18 just into Wisconsin near the National Wildlife Refuge parking lot. The driver initially refused to comply with officer’s commands. A K-9 was on standby to be deployed, but the driver eventually exited the stolen vehicle. The driver showed signs of impairment.
The driver was taken into custody by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and processed for OWI. The juvenile was eventually taken to Juvenile Detention Center in Eldora. The juvenile has been charged with the following in Iowa, with more charges pending:
• Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree (Class C Felony)
• Theft 2nd Degree (Class D Felony)
• Reckless Driving (Simple Misdemeanor)
• Two counts Theft 5th Degree (Simple Misdemeanor)
• Trespassing (Simple Misdemeanor)
• No Driver’s License (Simple Misdemeanor)
• No Seatbelt (Simple Misdemeanor)
• Possession of Alcohol Under Legal Age (Juvenile Referral)
Agencies involved were the Mar-Mac Police Department, Prairie du Chien Police Department, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office.
