Throughout December, there is typically an uptick of organizations requesting donations before the end of the year. The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office has received reports that some area residents have been receiving calls from people seeking donations for law enforcement. Though we cannot confirm the origins or authenticity of these calls, we do know the callers do not represent local law enforcement agencies. The money they are requesting and collecting does not support local law enforcement.
As always, please be very cautious when giving any personal information out, especially through a phone call. If you have concerns, it is perfectly acceptable and wise to just hang up the phone.
