CRAWFORD COUNTY – The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office Department of Emergency Management is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a $300,000 grant for the procurement and implementation of a new, advanced Mobile Command Center (MCC). This significant grant has been awarded by the Office of Justice Programs under the 2023 BJA FY 23 Rural and Small Department Violent Crime Reduction Program.
What is a Mobile Command Center (MCC)? A Mobile Command Center, commonly referred to as a command post, is a central hub for strategic operations and communications during emergencies, special events, or other critical incidents. Typically housed in a large vehicle or trailer, the MCC allows law enforcement and emergency responders to coordinate efforts, gather intelligence, and communicate with various agencies and units in real-time. Equipped with advanced technological tools, such as computer systems, communication devices, surveillance equipment, and mapping tools, the MCC ensures that officers and responders have access to the resources they need to manage situations effectively and efficiently.
The grant will be instrumental in addressing the pressing challenges currently faced by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office (CRSO) due to its outdated and unsafe MCC. The new MCC will serve as a pivotal resource in the management of violent crime scenes, significantly enhancing officer safety, enabling more effective community response, and guaranteeing scene security.
One of the primary objectives of this project is to design and procure a state-of-the-art MCC, which will be equipped with the latest technology. Customization will be a top priority, ensuring the MCC is tailored to meet the unique needs and challenges of the CRSO. This will provide optimal support to our officers during violent crime incidents and emergencies.

The community can expect to see this new MCC in operation in the not-so-distant future, as the CRSO actively works on the project’s design, procurement, and implementation phases.
