Arrests and an Accident in Crawford County

On Tuesday, August 15th, 2023, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on pickup truck on State Highway 35 in the Township of Eastman. The operator was identified as Todd La More (61) of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and his passenger was identified as Benjamin Britt (49) of Viroqua, Wisconsin. During the traffic stop, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office K9 Diego was utilized and alerted to the presence of one or more controlled substances in the truck. A search of the truck was conducted, and the following was discovered, methamphetamine, methamphetamine paraphernalia, marijuana, and a concealed weapon (knife). La More and Britt were placed under arrest and transported to the Crawford County Jail. La More was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, and Britt was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, carrying a concealed weapon as a prohibited felon, and violation of probation. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Milo’s Towing Service.

On Wednesday, August 16th, 2023, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a pickup truck in the Village of Soldiers Grove. The operator was identified as Amanda Nelson (41) of Gays Mills. While law enforcement personnel were behind Nelson’s truck, she attempted to dispose of a methamphetamine smoking device by throwing the same out the window of the truck. Once stopped, a search of the truck was conducted, and another methamphetamine-smoking device was discovered. Nelson was charged with possession of methamphetamine paraphernalia and obstruction

On Saturday, August 19th, 2023, at approximately 3:06 p.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motorcycle crash on State Highway 27 near Kendal Lane in the Village of Eastman. Deborah Peterson (65) of Camp Douglas, Wisconsin, was operating a 2013 Triumph motorcycle northbound on State Highway 27, and as she was negotiating a curve, she lost control, traveled across the southbound lane, left the highway, and was thrown from her motorcycle. She sustained severe injuries, and she was air lifted to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Eastman Fire Department, Eastman First Responders, Ocooch Mountain Rescue, Gundersen Air, and Milo’s Towing Service.
