The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office has released information on a couple of incidents that happened in July.
On July 25th, a vehicle was reported in the ditch on Pleasant Ridge Road near Natures Drive in Rural Marquette. The vehicle was stolen from a property in Garnavillo. 30 year old Henry Berns of Garnavillo was taken into custody and charged with 1st Degree Theft; 3rd Degree Burglary; Driving While Barred; and Violation Of A No Contact Order. Berns was also charged with Leaving The Scene Of An Accident.
A trailer that caught fire while being towed has led to charges for a Guttenberg man. Clayton County authorities say 39 year old Lee Earl was pulling a trailer along Jolly Ridge Road to Osterdock Road on July 30th when a tire blew on the trailer. Earl continued pulling the trailer on it’s rim, which caused sparks to be thrown from the rim, and eventually lighting the trailer on fire. The trailer became fully engulfed and was a total loss. Earl was issued citations for Operating a Non-Registered Vehicle and Hauling an Over-sized Load Without a Permit. The investigation continues into potential damage to the county road caused by the rim. The Colesburg Fire Department assisted at the scene.
