Boaters Found Safe After Reported Drowning

An altercation between two men in a boat near McGregor led to a reported drowning, but both men were found safe.  The Mar-Mac Police Department received a report of a drowning on the McGregor Riverfront late Wednesday evening.  The initial report into the Clayton County Communications Center stated two males had fallen out of a boat into the Mississippi River. One male was recovered while the second male was not.
During the investigation officers determined that an altercation between the two males had occurred while inside the boat. During their altercation, both males fell into the river. After assisting one male back into the boat, the second male swam to shore and walked to a nearby hotel. The boat party had lost contact with the second male which prompted the initial drowning report.
The Mar-Mac Police Department was assisted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Also responding to the scene included the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, MarMac RescueSquad, and McGregor Hook & Ladder Co. No 1 .
