The Clayton County Sheriff’s Department has released information on several incidents in the county. On May 23rd 68 year old Carol Keune was stopped on Gunder Road with her blinker on to make a turn into a driveway when she was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by 20 year old Caroline Halva of West Union. Keune was treated for minor injuries at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital. Halva was cited for failure to maintain control.
An Elkader woman was injured in an accident on May 27th. 26 year old Shana Hilgerson of Elkader lost control of the pickup she was driving on Gunder Road and struck a tree. A passenger in the truck, 22 year old Tess Hilgerson was taken to Mercy One Hospital in Elkader, then transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The accident remains under investigation.
A traffic stop resulted in marijuana charges on May 29th. A Clayton County Deputy conducted a traffic stop for an unsafe approach to an emergency vehicle and an out taillight. The Deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search revealed marijuana, marijuana edibles, and drug paraphernalia. 118 18 year old Tamara Guchshenkov of Waukon, 18 year old Sirenity Coates of Elgin and a female juvenile were charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. The Postville Police Department assisted with the incident.
