The Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a manure spreader accident Saturday morning. 17 year old Ryan Shirk of Stitzer was driving a tractor pulling a manure spreader downhill on Cannon Road, south of County Road A. The weight of the spreader began to push the tractor down the hill causing the tractor and spreader to jack knife and strike a guardrail. The spreader crossed over a concrete culvert, eventually leaving the road completely with the back end going downhill. The spreader became disconnected and rolled onto its right side, spilling the load of manure on the ground. Shirk was not injured in the incident. A neighbor used a skid steer to assist in cleaning up the solid manure that had been spilled.
