One person was taken to the hospital in a crash that involved four vehicles in Grant County. The accident happened just before 1pm Tuesday at the intersection of Hwy 18 and Annaton Road.
A dump truck driven by 65 year old Dan Carey of Highland, and car driven by 33 year old Caitlin O’Connell of Dodgeville were slowing down on 18 to make a turn when a semi driven by 67 year old Bruce Hasheider of Sauk City ran into the rear of O’Connell’s car pushing it into the rear driver’s side of the dump truck. Hasheider also attempted to swerve the semi to the right, after pushing O’Connell’s vehicle into the dump truck, and the semi slammed into the rear passenger side of the dump truck. This forced the dump truck into the eastbound lane of Highway 18.
Another car driven by 44 year old Heather Volden of Viroqua was traveling eastbound and hit the rear driver’s side of the dump truck.
The dump truck came to rest in the eastbound lane west of the intersection. Highway 18 was closed and traffic was re-routed for about two hours.
O’Connell was transported to Upland Hills Medical Center in Dodgeville for injuries sustained in the crash. All others involved received minor injuries in the crash but were not taken to the hospital. Hasheider received a citation for Inattentive Driving. Other aspects of the crash are still under investigation by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
