The Southwest Wisconsin Shrine Club will be selling Vidalia Onions in front of the Nelson’s Ace Hardware Store on Friday, May 5th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and on Saturday, May 6th at 9:00 am until the onions are gone. The cost is $12 for a 10 pound bag.
The local club is made up of Shriners from Crawford, Grant, Lafayette, and Iowa Counties in the Southwest corner of the state and is part of the Zor Shriners of Madison. The sale of the Vidalia onions is one of their major fraternal fund raisers. Zor sells a total of approximately 60,000 lbs. of the Vidalia onions in the western half of Wisconsin. The Southwest Shrine Club is selling 7,000 lbs. this year. 1700 lbs. is for sale in Prairie du Chien. The onions are shipped directly to Wisconsin from a local farmer in Georgia.
The Zor Shriners belong to Shriners International. The Shriners Hospitals for Children provides advanced care for children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip & palate.
