The Clayton County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man last Friday after a suspicious vehicle was reported on Walton Street at the McGregor city limits. The man, identified as 43-year-old John Montgomery, was found to have an arrest warrant out of Allamakee County. He fled the scene as officers tried to coax him out of his vehicle. Officers pursued the vehicle on the Great River Road to Garnavillo where he drove into a cornfield. Montgomery then fled on foot and officers utilized a police K9 to try and stop him. In the process, he assaulted the K9. Montgomery was arrested and charged with Eluding, two counts of Interference with Official Acts, Assault on a Police Dog Causing Injury, 3rd offense Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Reckless Driving. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
