The Rural Bridgeport & Prairie du Chien Fire Department held its annual meeting last Tuesday. Several members were recognized for their years of service: Paul Check and Justin Check for 15 years; Frank Cipra and Francis Hrubes for 20 years; Troy Smrcina for 25 years; Mike Hazen, and Ken Hess for 30 years; Joe Gillitzer for 40 years; and Russ Gillitzer, Bill Herreid, Dennis Mezera, Terry Thomas, and Jerry Wright for 45 years.
Dennis Mezera was awarded Fire Fighter of the Year. Also, the Rural Bridgeport & Prairie du Chien Women’s Auxiliary presented the fire department with a $10,000 donation. The Women’s Auxiliary biggest fundraiser event is the raffle, auction, and bake sale at their annual fish fry.
