A Minnesota man is facing a few charges after falling asleep while driving on Highway 171 in Gays Mills. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a one vehicle traffic crash at about 6:30 Monday morning. 23 year old Thomas A Riordan, of Plainview MN driving eastbound on 171. When he fell asleep and left the right shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle drove along the ditch before becoming stuck. The side airbags of the vehicle deployed when the vehicle entered the ditch. Riordan was cited for Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance, Operating After Suspension and Non-Registration of Auto.
The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department also released the details of a one-vehicle rollover on the afternoon of December 1st. 18 year old David Mahan of Gays Mills was negotiating a curve, and left the roadway, struck several posts, which eventually caused the truck to roll. Speed and driving behavior are believed to be a factor. Mahan sustained minor injuries and was cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle.
