Several cattle were lost in a semi rollover Monday night in Winneshiek County. The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office says Anton Tomash of Alta Vista was driving the semi southbound on Highway 52 just north of 175th street near Calmar when he became distracted while attempting to get a jug of water from the passenger side of the semi cab. He was also talking on the phone using a hands free headset. The semi dropped off the pavement of the roadway on to the west shoulder. Tomash lost control and overturned the semi tractor and trailer. Several cattle were thrown from the trailer, and several were trapped in the over turned trailer. Approximately 12 cattle died as a result of the rollover. Tomash was taken to the Winneshiek medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. He was charged with Failure to Maintain Control.
